    Dear Parents, Guardians, and Community Members, 

     I am pleased to have the opportunity to serve a second year as the Interim Principal at Del Val for the coming school year.

    The 2012-2013 school year at Del Val promises to be innovative and exciting as we embark on our Integrated Plan for Academic Development (iPAD initiative). On September 6 & 7, we will be training and providing every eligible student with an iPAD as one of their learning tools. This instrument will be used in all academic endeavors and it will replace expensive textbooks and electronically “open up the world” to our students. Del Val will rely heavily on electronic communication with students, parents and guardians through our school web site and emails; there will be greater responsibility for students, parents and guardians to monitor student academic progress and attendance. Hard copies of our school calendar, policies and discipline code will not be printed but will be available on line.

    Our staff is relatively intact with the additions of new English, Science and Special Education teachers to replace those that have retired or moved on to other job opportunities. We will provide the same athletic and co-curricular programs as last year, these being an important part of school life for students. We will also host a group of German students for a short time this fall and opportunities are being explored to host a group of Chinese students for two weeks and offer a group of Del Val students the opportunity to visit China sometime in the Spring/early summer of 2013. I have directed staff to establish open lines of communication with parents/guardians regarding individual student progress and achievement. Lastly, our school web site and cable TV station will be readily available sources of information to all.
