Welcome to the start a great year at Alexandria Middle School!
About Me:
I received my Undergraduate Degree from Seton Hall University in Psychology. A few years later I went to Kean University and received my teaching certificate in Special Education. I spent 18 years teaching at Piscataway High School. During my time there I returned to school to obtain my Masters Degree in Special Education, and then finally my Reading Specialist Certificate from The College of New Jersey. I also researched and developed Reading class at PHS.
Life took me to Texas for 2 years, and then most recently to Virginia for two years. I have finally returned home to New Jersey. While in Virginia I received my IMSE Orton Gillingham Certificate. I am looking forward to working with the Alexandria family and to make the school / community my home.
As your Reading Specialist at AMS, I obtain data from various sources to help develop individual / small group interventions. I tailor my lessons to the needs of the students that I work with, therefore, the lessons and pacing that I use can be different from that of their classroom instruction. However, I do utilize an Orton Gillingham approach, as well as a guided reading format for those students that need this instruction. These various forms of instruction are used based on the needs of the student and are altered as I work with each of them. There will be periodic communication and progress reports with the parents of any students that I am working with in my individual groups. Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns about your child.
I look forward to a successful school year with your children! :)
