    Changes to Courses

Introduction to Ceramics and Ceramics II: In light of the hybrid learning schedule this year, we feel that these courses will require a significant amount of supplemental coursework that deviates significantly from what would normally be presented in the ceramics classes. In order to present an authentic art experience for our students, we will be shifting you into a course called 3D-Mixed Media. This course will require students to explore three-dimensional design projects that can be completed both in school and at home. 3-D Mixed Media will address similar topics of design that would be found in ceramics, but the medium will be more varied. Furthermore, students will find this class to be an excellent preparation for further studies in ceramics and sculpture classes. Students will still be eligible to take Ceramics courses in the future for credit.

Introduction to Photography: Students should know that since we are limited in the number of Canon SLR cameras, the introductory course photography will utilize the cameras and editing capabilities that can be found on the iPad, or if the student chooses, their cell phone. The semester-long course will cover photography basics such as composition, cropping, lighting, color, editing, and the fundamentals of Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.

    Arts Department Overview:

The Visual Art Department exposes students to creativity, problem-solving, aesthetics and kinesthetic learning. The New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Visual and Performing Arts state as their mission "the arts enable personal, intellectual, social, economic, and human growth by fostering creativity and providing opportunities for expression beyond the limits of language." All courses in the Art Department are elective courses. It should be noted that Art courses are one semester, not full-year, with the exception of Fundamentals of Art and AP Studio Art. Art courses fulfill a student’s Visual & Performing Arts credit requirement.

The Art Department is also an integral part of Del Val's Fine and Performing Arts Academy!
