Interests outside of teaching:
The AMS Health and Physical Education department runs a comprehensive program with an emphasis on physical fitness. We believe that fitness can help any individual achieve any goal. Research suggests that a strong fitness base will not only help individuals reach activity performance goals but will also increase other health aspects such as mental, emotional, and social wellness. This will increase overall quality of life.
6th, 7th, 8th Grade
The 6th, 7th, and 8th grade PE classes will be everyday for the 2017-18 school year. Students are expected to change their clothes everyday unless told otherwise. They will be expected to operate a lock given to them by the PE/HE department. They have the opportunity to defer a school lock and they can bring in their own. The classes themselves will be split between activity days and fitness days. For activity days the students will be engaged in various curriculum based sports/skills such as volleyball, archer, soccer, basketball, and team handball.
Health this year will be taught in trimester number 1. PE will be taught in trimesters 2-3.
4th and 5th Grade
The 4th and 5th grade will rigorously work on cues and safety concerns that are essential for success in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Examples of cues would be simple start and stop cues. Examples of safety concerns would be demonstrating the ability to find personal space, stay on the feet, and meaning of lines in the gym. Once this is achieved the process of motor control and eventually motor learning will be addressed through gameplay. The information presented in 4th and 5th grade Health will also prepare the student for information to be presented in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.
