19/20 School Closure and Calendar Revision
May 5, 2020
Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,
As you know, Governor Murphy has announced the extension of the statewide school facilities closure through the end of the 2019/2020 school year, or June 30, 2020. The Commissioner also confirmed that the statutory 180 school day requirement remains in effect. As such, our DLDs will continue through the remainder of the 19/20 school year.
At this time, we do not have information about summer programs or the start of the 2020/2021 school year. Additional information will be forthcoming from the Governor and the Department of Education. In the meanwhile, a dedicated group of DelVal staff members, coordinated by Mr. Adam Wright, is developing a comprehensive Return to School plan that will address: Governance, Wellness, Instruction, Facilities, School Operations, and Technology.
Please be reminded that the original 2019/2020 DelVal school calendar reflects 183 student/teacher days, and 3 built-in emergency closing (snow) days. In light of the extraordinary circumstances, on May 4 the Board of Education adopted the revised 2019/2020 school calendar reflecting the forgiveness of the three instructional days beyond the statutory requirement, and returning the 2 built-in unused emergency closing (snow) days. As you can see on the revised 19/20 school calendar, the last day of Distance Learning is now Friday, Jun 5, 2020. Graduation, in whatever form it takes, will still be held on June 12, 2020.
Daria Wasserbach, Superintendent
