Fall Blood Drive
We are pleased to announce the outstanding success of our recent blood drive, which yielded significant community benefit:
50 units of blood collected, projected to aid 150 hospital patients
49 total donors participated, including 21 first-time donors
Surplus items (water, juice boxes, snacks) were donated by the NHS chapter to three Camden charities:
CMSRU Street Medicine ( https://cmsru.rowan.edu/blog/2018/street-medicine-cmsru-students-help-the-homeless-where-they-live.html ) - The CMSRU Street Medicine program provides outreach, support, supplies, basic medical care, and health screenings to unsheltered individuals where they reside, connecting them with primary care clinics, community resources, and social services. Cooper Medical School students go out every Saturday to various homeless encampments to offer help.
CMSRU Tutoring & Student Mentoring ( https://cmsru.rowan.edu/community/community-health-service-learning/tutoring-and-mentoring.html ) Every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 3 pm - 6 pm students from surrounding neighborhoods receive homework tutoring, healthy snacks, and mentoring from CMSRU students.
Cathedral Kitchen ( https://cathedralkitchen.org/ ) - Located in Camden, they feed 700 people daily and deliver 3000 meals monthly to people in need.
We are immensely proud of our NHS leadership who put this successful program together and all the NHS members who donated their time to help out.
